Hello Everyone!

My name is Amanda and I'm new to this group. I'm currently seeking
online training for summation and trial director. Can anyone refer
me to a program that offers online courses for these programs?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Amanda

Whitney - There's one at my website :
http://www.nvo.com/evansetc/thetechnologytrialkit/index.nhtml?profile=th
etechnologytrialkit

It's a couple of years old, so you would, for example, replace "Zip or
Jazz drive" with "external hard drive" but it may be a starting point
for you. I remember this discussion before on the list, too, but I can't
remember who else said they had such a thing.

Best wishes -

Romeo - I use Document Director when I need to create a quick load
file. You'll be able to add images from a directory into Document
Director and then create load files for most of the lit support
programs. The only problem I've had with it with Summation DII files
is that the load file is created using the @V format rather than the
@I format.

It's also really easy to re-unitize images using Document Director.

convert to TIFF in-house. Are there any programs (aside from LAW,
which would be awesome, but can't quite justify adding to the budget
just yet) that would allow me to create a simple load file by just
pointing it to the directory containing the TIFFs?

Also, we are more frequently having to re-unitize or re-break
documents after the fact. Is there anything out there that would
allow me to set new document ranges in the DAT file, and
simultaneously change the *.LOG file to refelct these new breaks?

Thanks again - I look forward to your comments and suggestions.

Subject: Re: Trial Checklist

Hi Whitney,

Here is what I usually bring:

1) TWO (yep 2) laptops configured with my case in Trial Director.
2) Extension cord (long) and power strip (you never know where the
closest outlet will be or where you will need to sit for the
presentation).

3) Projector (unless rented)
4) Screen (unless rented)
5) Folding or telescoping table for laptop and/or projector (NOTE:
most of the time if you can check out the courtroom before trial, there
is usually a table you can borrow for your equipment - but ALWAYS ask
first. I find it extremely helpful to be friendly and courteous to the
sheriff's officers and clerks as they will help you in turn).
6) Printed list of exhibits and documents with numbers matching trial
binder numbers for attorney so that when he says "Exhibit 2" we both
know that the image may be "A00002" etc. (I also bring 2 or sometimes 3
copies of this document in case co-counsel or the associate may want to
look over it as well).
7) I also keep in my laptop bag extra stickey note pads, paper, pens
and tissues because attorneys always seem to lose them.

NOTE: If your projector will be far from your laptop, you may want to
invest in a video repeater. This will refresh and help your image be
strong when long cables are used in the room.

I hope that helps.

We have several large Concordance email databases
where the attached files imported by Concordance are
either too long or contain invalid characters.
Somehow
Concordance creates these invalid files which we
cannot view or copy. We can rename some with invalid characters if
the

name is not too long.

However, we are trying to move the data from one
server to another and of course Windoze does not
copy
the files with the extra long file names. We've
tried
xcopy, copy, explorer and ftp to no avail. And
Windopes does not allow me to rename the offending
files either.

Has anyone else experienced this? And is there
another
way to copy these files?

*sigh*

Thanks

Subject: Summaiton Copycase problems from Citrix

I copied a case down from our Citrix server to a mobile copy of
Summation. I get the error "There was a problem reading security from
<file://Client/C$/Program> \\Client\C$\Program
Files\Summation\Blaze\Admin\" when going into the case on the mobile
version. I knew that it would mess up the path and would have to fix
that in the Ci file, but I am not sure where to fix this Admin path - I
have opened up all the ini files and other settings files but have not
found it anywhere. Also, we are not even using the Admin console.

Thanks

Has anyone heard of a software program called "Evidence" that was

Subject: Question about bates re-numbering standard

What is the standard for re-numbering documents that already have
bates stamps on them?

When using Acrobat plugins to stamp PDF files, it seems that they all
cover up an existing portion of the page. On the other hand, a
program like Law will create a border around a TIF so as not to cover
up anything on the page.

Also, when stamping PDF files in Acrobat, the new bates number
becomes a layer over top of the existing PDF file, making the
previous bates stamp visible in some ways and does not actually hide
it. It is mandatory to always merge or flatten the PDF file down
once a document is re-stamped?

Lots of questions here about such a simple thing, but I just wanted
to know what the "official standard" was.

Thanks,
JD

Subject: Re: Working with load files in-house

If it is a real small TIFF job you may want to think
about manually creating a .CSV file. That si actually
pretty simple in excel just do not forget to put the
full path in there. Save it out of Excel as a .CSV.
If you have an editing program such as
Textpad(which I would recommend) open up the .CSV and
save it out as a .dat file or. txt file. With that you
have yourself a small manual load file.
As for LAW I highly recommend it. It is a great
program with incredible technical support. One of the
things I like most about Imagecap is they listen to
requests that will make their programs better. If
enough people ask for a certain feature then they put
it in an update.

Any questions let me know

Hey Folks,

I was wondering if there were any programs out there
that would allow
us to generate/manipulate load files in-house.

To put our situation in perspective - We frequently
send out projects
to vendors who in turn send us back the standard
package of
single-page TIFFs, a Concordance DAT file, and an
Opticon imagebase
load file. This is pretty much standard procedure
for any large jobs,
but quite frequently we have really small jobs that
I can easily
convert to TIFF in-house. Are there any programs
(aside from LAW,
which would be awesome, but can't quite justify
adding to the budget
just yet) that would allow me to create a simple
load file by just
pointing it to the directory containing the TIFFs?

Also, we are more frequently having to re-unitize or
re-break
documents after the fact. Is there anything out
there that would
allow me to set new document ranges in the DAT file,
and
simultaneously change the *.LOG file to refelct
these new breaks?

Thanks again - I look forward to your comments and
suggestions.

Has anyone ever imported a Summation database into Access? If so, how
did you handle look-up tables? I have a paralegal who's absolutely
convinced she wants to use Access because there will be no transcripts
or images to deal with, and they prefer to run reports on the Access

I use screens from Da-Lite. Their Theater line screens are very nice and
highly portable. http://www.da-lite.com/products/product.php?cID=19&pID=92
The only drawback with the 60" x 80" screen is that it rolls up into a tube
of small diameter but 8' long. It looks kinda funny sticking out of the cab
window.

Director and then create load files for most of the lit support
programs. The only problem I've had with it with Summation DII files
is that the load file is created using the @V format rather than the
@I format.

It's also really easy to re-unitize images using Document Director.

which would be awesome, but can't quite justify adding to the budget

pointing it to the directory containing the TIFFs?

To put our situation in perspective - We frequently
send out projects
to vendors who in turn send us back the standard
package of
single-page TIFFs, a Concordance DAT file, and an
Opticon imagebase
load file. This is pretty much standard procedure
for any large jobs,
but quite frequently we have really small jobs that
I can easily
convert to TIFF in-house. Are there any programs
(aside from LAW,
which would be awesome, but can't quite justify
adding to the budget
just yet) that would allow me to create a simple
load file by just
pointing it to the directory containing the TIFFs?

Also, we are more frequently having to re-unitize or
re-break
documents after the fact. Is there anything out
there that would
allow me to set new document ranges in the DAT file,
and
simultaneously change the *.LOG file to refelct
these new breaks?

Thanks again - I look forward to your comments and
suggestions.

Has anyone ever imported a Summation database into Access? If so, how
did you handle look-up tables? I have a paralegal who's absolutely
convinced she wants to use Access because there will be no transcripts
or images to deal with, and they prefer to run reports on the Access
engine.

Erin,

If you are looking for a portable projector screen, check out Da-Lite's
Deluxe Insta-Theater. It's available in 60 x 80. I've used them for years.
They are easy to transport, very durable and not too expensive. Plus they
take up a small amount of space in the courtroom AND can be lowered easily
when not in use.

It's a couple of years old, so you would, for example, replace "Zip or

for you. I remember this discussion before on the list, too, but I can't
remember who else said they had such a thing.

Do you know if you guys know where I can find any kind of checklist for
things to remember to take to trial when doing an electronic

I have an attorney that wants me to come up with one and I was thinking
I had heard this discussed on this group before but couldn't find it in

Romeo - I use Document Director when I need to create a quick load
file. You'll be able to add images from a directory into Document
Director and then create load files for most of the lit support
programs. The only problem I've had with it with Summation DII files
is that the load file is created using the @V format rather than the
@I format.

It's also really easy to re-unitize images using Document Director.

However, we are trying to move the data from one

Has anyone else experienced this? And is there

Any questions let me know

load file by just
pointing it to the directory containing the TIFFs?

Also, we are more frequently having to re-unitize or
re-break
documents after the fact. Is there anything out
there that would
allow me to set new document ranges in the DAT file,
and
simultaneously change the *.LOG file to refelct
these new breaks?

Thanks again - I look forward to your comments and
suggestions.

Amanda,

For Summation check out their website.
http://www.summation.com
That will give you plenty of additional information on
Summation.

Has anyone ever imported a Summation database into Access? If so, how
did you handle look-up tables? I have a paralegal who's absolutely
convinced she wants to use Access because there will be no transcripts
or images to deal with, and they prefer to run reports on the Access
engine.

Thanks,
