We are in need of a Foreign Language OCR Product. Any Suggestions?
Specifically Japanese, Cantonese and Mandarin. We need to be able to OCR in
the specific Language and Produce a searchable PDF in that Language.

Translation.net is a smallish reseller in Seatlle of translation and
OCR software. They also offer services where they will do the
scanning/translation for you. I have never personally used their
products or services but I have an associate that owns their Chinese
translation app. He says it does what it is supposed to do.

I'm not aware of a specific OCR product, but one thing
to keep in mind when you are talking to vendors is
making sure that their product will successfully OCR
the writing system(s) used in your data set. Both
Japanese and Chinese have multiple writing systems;
kanji, hiragana, katakana, and romaji for Japanese and
Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and pinyin
for Chinese.
